To sum it up...

Our software learns to automate work just by observing it

Role overview

About Us

100 billion. That’s the number of hours of repetitive, manual work we will do on our computers this year. Businesses would kill to automate this work, but state-of-the-art software automation requires teams of developers, months of effort, and hundreds of thousands of pounds to deploy. Most businesses simply can’t afford that price tag.

At Mimica, we are developing a new paradigm for automation: our software learns to automate work just by observing it. This eliminates the need for developers, making the benefits of automation accessible to everyone. Our algorithms learn by watching you work, observing clicks and keystrokes and using machine learning to identify repetition within this dataset. This approach dramatically broadens automation potential within a business. With Mimica, all of the low-volume, bespoke tasks that never warranted attention suddenly become viable candidates for automation, opening up a $5T previously untapped market.

About you

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our data science team at Mimica. Mimica helps businesses automate repetitive computer-based work. We take a unique approach to automation: rather than being explicitly programmed, our software learns to execute tasks through human observation. Our software makes automation effortless--- it records clicks and keystrokes, identifies simple, repetitive tasks, and automates them.

Successful applicants will be amongst the first hires of a young and ambitious team. We have diverse backgrounds, from NLP to neuroscience, and are all passionate about solving difficult technical challenges. As a small team, we work in close collaboration and move quickly. Your work here will have a strong, tangible impact on the whole company.

The Role

At Mimica you will use computer vision techniques to process and analyze desktop screenshots. We'd like you to start by predicting a UI element and its type, given a screenshot and an x,y coordinate of a click. We'd then like to interpret the UI element's surroundings to learn additional context - such as the name of the element or its position in a visual hierarchy.

Skills and Past Experience

  • 5+ years of experience applying statistical methods to data
  • Expert level experience in Python
  • Computer vision experience

As part of the team at Mimica...

  • You think like a founder: you can make decisions quickly with little oversight; you keep the big picture in mind; you take responsibility and initiative for constantly improving your product.
  • You are a team player: you instinctively seek and give feedback; you are not afraid to be wrong or challenged. You enjoy working collaboratively to find the best solution.
  • You are an exceptional worker: the job isn’t done until your high standards are met. You don’t cut corners, nor do you always seek perfection; you balance the need for quality and speed.
  • You are an independent thinker: you are unafraid of challenging the status quo; you bring a contrarian mindset to the table when evaluating decisions.
  • You are strategically-minded: you are able to identify and prioritize strategic initiatives and are eager to think big about Mimica’s potential

Location

London is the capital of the United Kingdom, situated in the South East of the island. The world's largest financial centre, London is also often referred to the culture capital of the world. The city is well-known for its heritage, including Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Kew Gardens, Westminster Abbey, and the historic settlement of Greenwich. London Underground is the oldest urban railway network in the world.

Technology workers in London earn 60pc more than the city average, with the figure even higher for foreign born workers, who earned 28pc more than their British counterparts in tech jobs. London can be considered as a center for professional relocation. Furthermore, there are over 100 of Europe's 500 largest companies' headquarters in London.

The city is famous for unpredictable weather. For instance, it could be cold, warm and rainy in one day and it’s often the topic of conversation across the city.

Mimica We're building the future of work automation. At Mimica we are developing a new paradigm for automation: our software learns to automate work just by observing it. This eliminates the need for developers, making the benefits of automation accessible to everyone. Automation Today The state-of-the-art of software automation requires explicit programming by a developer. Tools that make this programming easier have gained popularity, but the paradigm is essentially the same: a human must program an automation step-by-step. This intricate, manual programming is time-consuming and error-prone, making automation prohibitively expensive for most of the world's businesses. Mimica's Approach Our machine learning algorithms learn to automate work by continuously observing clicks and keystrokes and identifying repetition within this dataset. Once we understand a process, we can generate code for the automation. This approach dramatically broadens automation potential within a business. With Mimica, all of the low-volume, bespoke tasks that never warranted attention suddenly become viable candidates for automation.
